Diverse challenges must be addressed in order to progress towards greater equality. Some are emerging ones, such as the Covid-19 pandemic and other natural disasters, demographic, epidemiological and nutritional transitions, and violence. Others are structural in nature, such as the need to move towards a rights-based and universal focus, that is sensitive to differences; but all should be confronted with the participation of social compacts and solid institutions.
